The Summer Nights festival is held on the square opposite the tennis hall in Meransen every Thursday night, from 28th July to 18th August 2022. This event is organised by local associations, but its convivial and cheerful atmosphere is not reserved for locals only: our guests are welcome to join in the celebrations and immerse themselves in the local customs and traditions.
Besides, hosts Verena and Stefan happily lend a hand with the organisation of the event. The programme changes every week, although the Schuhplattler and Goaslschnöller* are a permanent part of it. Musical entertainment is provided by the Schützen music band of Meransen or other local bands.
Naturally, there’s also a culinary side to this event, with weekly changing South Tyrolean specialities served from 6 p.m. for you to sample. And we strongly recommend you do! Last but not least, this is also a child-friendly event, with a bouncy castle and a bungee trampoline provided for the delight of the younger ones.
* Schuhplattler are boys and girls dressed up in traditional Tyrolean costumes who jump and dance to the rhythm of an accordion, not-so-gently slapping their thighs as they do. After a few yells and some skin redness, the performance ends with a generous round of applause.
The Goaslschnöllen is another ancient South Tyrolean tradition that requires a fair amount of practice. It involves swinging a whip forwards and backwards and from left to right, producing a loud crack. The trick lies in not hurting yourself in the process.
