... Fa la la la la, the market’s back! This year, the Christmas markets will once again bring joy and wonder right in the heart of the South Tyrolean towns – each with its own unique character. Here is a little preview of what is to come:
Lined at the foot of the majestic cathedral, and surrounded by ancient buildings, the stalls of the Bressanone/Brixen Christmas market offer everything from festive decorations to sweet and savoury treats. Enjoy the scent-filled air, colourful lights and festive sounds as you sip from a cup of mulled wine or hot spicy apple juice.
Bolzano/Bozen boasts Italy’s largest Christmas market. Take a walk among the stalls in the festively illuminated Walther square, and let yourself be enticed by the scent of Krapfen, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine.
In Vipiteno/Sterzing, Italy’s northernmost town, the Christmas market couldn’t have a more charming setting – with the iconic Zwölferturm tower rising high above the stalls, and the snow-capped Alps all around. Seize the opportunity to buy some of the handmade carvings and embroidery on offer.
The Christmas market in the artists’ town of Chiusa/Klausen has a unique flavour, with its storytellers, fire breathers, jugglers and knights parading through the town. The ancient alleys, sparsely lit with candles and lanterns, are immersed in a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere in keeping with the medieval soul of the town.
